Odessa Steps
In the infancy of the motion picture industry, Sergei Eisenstein directed the film Battleship Potemkin. Included is a classic scene referred to as "The Odessa Steps" sequence, which is considered a formative moment in the cinematic arts.
The scene is perhaps the best example of Eisenstein's theory on montage, and many films pay homage to the scene, including Terry Gilliam's Brazil, Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, and Brian De Palma's The Untouchables
